The Class 1 MELT Course

The Mandatory Entry Level Training consists of 121.5 hours of standardized training. The total 121.5 hours will be divided between classroom, on yard training and one on one instruction in driving. 

Classroom Training

Classroom training involves daily written exercises and quizzes, followed by a midterm exam (1-5) and one final exam (1-10). Student are encouraged to take notes as it will be beneficial for studying.

On Yard Training

The on yard training will be extensive with training sessions in; Coupling, uncoupling,  pre-trip and air brake inspection, backing exercises, learning the names of different components on truck and trailer (anatomy).

Driving training

You will receive training in multiple terrains; city driving two lane highways, four lane highways, steep hills and rolling countryside. 

A key component will also be learning about the range selector and the splitter. Safe semi truck procedure and attentive driving skills will also be reviewed. All driving training will be one on one for optimum learning and practical knowledge for future careers.

Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement

A class 3 and Air brake license is required to operate equipment like a concrete delivery truck or a tandem axle delivery truck or a gravel truck. In this course we’ll go through the required pre- trip inspection as well as teaching the steps for the air brakes.  We’ll demonstrate and teach the proper shifting techniques and get you comfortable with handling the truck tractor for the road test.  Call for more details and pricing. 

Stand Alone Class 3 License

This license allows you to operate a unit such as a half ton pulling a trailer that is registered for 4,540 kg.  This type of equipment is used in the construction industry to haul heavier machinery such as a skid steer.  A class 3 license is also required when pulling a large camper trailer which again exceeds 4,540 kg.  So for this course we’ll guide you through the pre trip and brakes procedures as well we take you on the road to show proper turning methods and things to be aware of when pulling these heavy trailers. 

Air Brake Course

In some instances a leisure motor home with two axles is equipped with air brake systems and the driver is required to have his air brake endorsement in order to legally operate the vehicle.  We can guide you through the step by step process to obtain this endorsement.  Some two axle delivery trucks are also are equipped with air brakes which again require the driver to obtain an air brake endorsement in order to operate the truck.   Call for more details and pricing.
